Controparte

Controparte is a modern etager, a hybrid between a shelf and a sculpture.

On its purely practical aspect its main function is simply of containing objects, but since its intended to contain objects of a certain value (both economical and affective) its enriched with a valence of meaning of protection and care.

A MODULAR
ETAGER

controparte-modules

Controparte is made by modules that can be combined in different ways, the user can thus design its personal configuration according to its needs and taste.

Each module has a basic geometrical shape and through a system of chains and hooks can be connected to the others.

Once the composition of the modules is completed the resulting shelf has to be placed in position by hanging it from the ceiling and holding it in tension with the floor through the two ending hooks.

Each module of Controparte is made of an internal aluminium structure of hollow profiles and base plates welded together with the top and bottom chains.

The structures are then wrapped in the elastic fabric pivoted to the top and bottom chains and leaving an opening in the front.

The user can thus decide whether to hide or show the contained objects by leaving closed or open the fabric as the curtains of a theatre framing the scene on the stage.

A MATERIAL DRIVEN PROJECT

Controparte was developed during the “Laboratorio di Metaprogetto” in my second year of the Bachelor’s degree course.
The project, developed in partnership with Material Connexxion in the framework of the European project “LIFE MP3“, had as brief the development of a product based on waste materials from the production of a textile industry.

The aim of the “LIFE MP3” project, co-funded by the European Commission under the Life 2014-2020 Programme, is to study and implement an on-line platform to promote exchanging of industrial waste among the companies of manufacturing districts to reduce the discarding of scrap materials that are still valuable.
